This workshop is an opportunity for master teachers, researchers, and movement artists to get together and share in the wealth of knowledge that is found in historical and theatrical fighting techniques, from all around the world. We welcome everyone from beginners to experts, enthusiasts of stage combat, historical martial arts, stunt work, and the theatrical movement industry to join us and participate in the classes and lectures offered by our instructors.<\/p>\n

As time goes by it is easy to forget where a lot of our shared heritage comes from. In the areas of historical martial arts, movement studies, stage combat, fight direction and stunts, we are all going through a huge boom in research and development and in turn our various areas of study are finding a wonderful renaissance. This year we celebrate our 8th trip to The Banff Centre with a theme called: Heroes and Monsters!<\/p>\n

Not only is the training intense and the new knowledge invaluable, you get to make connections with international experts, and to top it off the resort accommodations and food are superb.<\/p>\n

AFDC Nationals 2015<\/h2>\n

The Academy of Fight Directors Canada is pleased to announce that the 2015 Nationals will once again be hosted by our colleagues at the UofA.<\/p>\n

This professional certification program has been expanded from 12 days to 18 days in 2015. This will allow candidates a more comprehensive training experience and more time to prepare before testing.<\/p>\n

At AFDC, we are committed to offering the best professional training available. We take great pride in our certified members and their contributions to the industry and Actor\/Combatant training around the world.<\/p>\n

Registration for the 2015 Nationals will be available online by mid-October, 2014, with early bird discounts available until Jan. 15, 2015.

Certification Intensives at Rapier Wit<\/h2>\n

Over the course of these certification classes, some of Canada\u2019s best stage combat professionals will take students through training designed to help them progress as physical performers. Classes will focus on successfully creating the illusion of violence through armed\/unarmed techniques and application of acting craft. Rapier Wit, located in downtown Toronto, is Canada’s first and longest-running stage combat school.<\/p>\n

Intermediate: January 5 \u2013 26 9 AM to 6 PM every day (two rest days)<\/p>\n

Basic: May 10 \u2013 May 22 Basic Actor Combatant A 9 AM to 6 PM every day (one rest day)

Combat Acting at Academie Duello<\/h2>\n

January 19 – 30
\nMonday-Friday 9am – 4pm<\/p>\n

Academie Duello\u2019s Stage & Screen program provides actors, stunt-people and action-film enthusiasts in Vancouver with an engaging and supportive environment to build and develop their skills as stage combatants.<\/p>\n

Fight Directors Canada requires three specific weapon systems at the Basic Actor-Combatant level: Sword, Quarterstaff and Unarmed. The 20 hours of lessons per weapon covers how to wield the weapon with accuracy and effective fighting style, in drills, choreography and flourishes. Equally important are the safety concerns with each weapon, and how to create the illusion of violence with each strike and move. At the end of the course, the student will perform three fight scenes (complete with dialogue and acting besides an impressive fight), one for each weapon, evaluated by an FDC Fight Master.<\/p>\n
