This was an all-day workshop from 10am to 5pm. Although the day was hot, and we had to share the salle with the secondaries workshop happening concurrently, I consider it a success.<\/p>\n<h2>Attendance<\/h2>\n<p>We had 6 participants, which was an ideal number for this workshop. Next time, I&#8217;ll aim for a larger group only if we have the whole space. As it stood, neither group was cramped, and on a sweltering day, that&#8217;s important.<\/p>\n<h2>Outline<\/h2>\n<p>10 am: Warm up, introduction to Bartitsu<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Meet attendees\n<li>Discuss context and history\n<li>Physical warm up\n<li>Tactics: avoidance (e.g. walk in middle of street)\n<li>Tactics: effective action &#8211; equilibrium (stance, opponent&#8217;s)\n<li>Tactics: effective action &#8211; distance (weapon danger zone)\n<\/ul>\n<p>11 am: Self-Defence in 19th Century<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Thrown overcoat\n<li>Backfall\/Breakfall\n<li>Arm lever (from lapel grab, from overhead attack)\n<li>Jiujitsu\/Judo throws (from grab, from overhead, from bear-hug)\n<\/ul>\n<p>12 pm: Walking Stick<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Stances and Grips\n<li>Cuts and Thrusts, with footwork\n<li>Guard by distance (step back)\n<li>Guard by distance (step in)\n<li>Invitation to head\n<\/ul>\n<p>1 pm: Lunch<br \/>\n2 pm: Scientific Boxing, Savate<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Stance\n<li>Striking: lead, cross\n<li>Defense: guard right (inside), guard left (outside)\n<li>Kicks: chasse-croise, coup de pied bas\n<\/ul>\n<p>3 pm: Modern Unarmed<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>De-escalation posture, reaction to grab\n<li>Psychological dominance (rapidity, direction, initiative)\n<li>Saving the knuckles (palm strike, elbows)\n<li>Systema punch\n<li>Sticky hands\/chi gung flow\n<li>Reintegration with Neo-bartitsu: principles.\n<\/ul>\n<p>4 pm: Modern Umbrella<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Umbrella weaknesses (not a &#8220;stout stick&#8221;)\n<li>Grip(s)\n<li>&#8220;Lighter stick&#8221; drills (preemptive strike to head, throw\/kick\/hook\/figure-4)\n<li>&#8220;vs boxer&#8221; drill (jump to outside, turn 180, strike knee\/shin)\n<li>Open umbrella as cloak for leg attack\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Video<\/h2>\n<p>Here is a 6-minute clip from the workshop. This is towards the end (after 4pm) when I was discussing Neo-bartitsu.
