{"id":4924,"date":"2015-07-19T22:18:56","date_gmt":"2015-07-19T22:18:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/playfighting.ca\/fight-like-a-gentleman\/?p=4924"},"modified":"2015-07-19T23:15:19","modified_gmt":"2015-07-19T23:15:19","slug":"handling-a-gang-of-ruffians","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/playfighting.ca\/fight-like-a-gentleman\/project\/handling-a-gang-of-ruffians\/","title":{"rendered":"Handling a Gang of Ruffians"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It is well known that gangs in Victorian London would use the &#8220;P\u00e8re Fran\u00e7ois&#8221; attack in which one ruffian would distract the victim while a second would sneak up behind and throw a bag over their head; and holding the bag straps around the neck, other gang members would go through their pockets and disappear before the victim got a glance at them.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/playfighting.ca\/fight-like-a-gentleman\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/coup-de-pere-francois.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/playfighting.ca\/fight-like-a-gentleman\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/coup-de-pere-francois.jpg?resize=181%2C153\" alt=\"coup-de-pere-francois\" width=\"181\" height=\"153\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4928\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Bartitsu was developed when newspapers were running articles about these dangers, and one of the aims of this mixed martial art is to effectively defend against multiple attackers.<\/p>\n<h2>How to Fight Multiple Attackers<\/h2>\n<p>In Academie Duello&#8217;s first Bartitsu-focused workshop, you&#8217;ll learn:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>How to assess a multiple-attacker scenario<\/li>\n<li>What strategies to use for optimal safety<\/li>\n<li>When to use and when to abandon an improvised weapon such as an umbrella<\/li>\n<li>How to deal with grabs from behind<\/li>\n<li>What to do about knives and other weapons<\/li>\n<li>Why ground-fighting must be avoided, and what to do if you fall<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This workshop is open to the public with no prior experience.
