Handling a Gang of Ruffians
It is well known that gangs in Victorian London would use the “Père François” attack in which one ruffian would distract the victim while a second would sneak up behind and throw a bag over their head; and holding the bag straps around the neck, other gang members would go through their pockets and disappear before the victim got a glance at them.
Bartitsu was developed when newspapers were running articles about these dangers, and one of the aims of this mixed martial art is to effectively defend against multiple attackers.
How to Fight Multiple Attackers
In Academie Duello’s first Bartitsu-focused workshop, you’ll learn:
- How to assess a multiple-attacker scenario
- What strategies to use for optimal safety
- When to use and when to abandon an improvised weapon such as an umbrella
- How to deal with grabs from behind
- What to do about knives and other weapons
- Why ground-fighting must be avoided, and what to do if you fall
This workshop is open to the public with no prior experience. However, it will be most beneficial for those with previous unarmed martial arts experience, especially those who are at least Green Sash in our Bartitsu program.
Join Up!
The workshop will be August 9, 2015, 1pm to 5pm at Academie Duello in downtown Vancouver, BC.
