Fairburn-umbrella

Sunday, 26 March – 1:00pm to 5:00pm

In this 4-hour workshop, participants will learn the art of self-defence with an umbrella or cane. Based on the Bartitsu system developed in turn of the century Victorian England, students will learn practical self-defence techniques that take advantage of the properties of the common full-length umbrella. Students will learn:

  • How to employ the umbrella to conduct strikes, blocks, holds, and wrestles.
  • Use of reach and point precision to keep assailants at bay.
  • Hooking with the crook and choking with the cross.
  • Use of the umbrella sword-style, as a two handed bayonet, and as a vicious club.
  • How to fend off punches, grabs, and knives.

This workshop is practical, stylish, and fun and will suit participants of all ages and fitness levels.
